Petition Opposing the Proposed Telus Cell Tower at Sconadale Road & Range Road 231

To:

  • Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) – Spectrum Management, Prairie Region
  • Strathcona County Council & Planning and Development Services

We, the undersigned residents of Strathcona County, hereby register our formal opposition to the proposed TELUS 160-foot wireless communication tower at the intersection of Sconadale Road and Range Road 231.

Reason for Opposition

  1. The proposed location is directly adjacent to a high-density acreage residential community, with numerous homes located within a close radius of the tower site.
  2. This location does not align with Strathcona County's preferred siting guidelines, which encourage placement of wireless facilities in agricultural, industrial, or non-residential areas to minimize residential impact.
  3. TELUS previously identified an alternative site at Deermound Dog Park (TWP 522 & Hwy 21) which has minimal residential exposure and far better land-use compatibility.
  4. Placing a telecommunications tower in a concentrated residential area when a clearly lower-impact alternative exists is unnecessary and incompatible with responsible land-use planning.

Our Request

  1. That Strathcona County issue a Non-Concurrence for the proposed Sconadale Rd / RR 231 tower location.
  2. That ISED Canada require TELUS to reconsider alternate locations, such as the previously proposed Deermound Dog Park site or other non-residential parcels.
  3. That TELUS provide full technical justification as to why the Deermound site was placed "on hold."

Statement of Support

By signing below, we affirm that we oppose the proposed tower location and support a requirement that TELUS pursue a non-residential, lower-impact site for wireless infrastructure in Strathcona County.
